This hunting jacket was made by the C.C. Filson Company founded in Seattle in 1897. It features four types of pockets used for storing everything from a compass to shot game. The pocket for storing game can be accessed from the front of the jacket, and leads to a large cavity within the back. One small pocket’s placement is a mystery, however. It is uncommon to have one on the upper right shoulder, where the gun usually rests. Filson frequently customized orders, so it may have been a special request. One explanation is that this jacket was used for some outdoor activity other than hunting. For a century, Filson has served those who labor outdoors professionally as well as those whose adventures are pure passion. A 1914 catalog describes the brand as making garments for miners, lumbermen, sportsmen, and explorers.
